Spring is here, and it's a great season for volunteering! Gather some friends and spend a few hours volunteering for a local United Way member agency, followed by drinks at a nearby pub with fellow GenNexters. 

We have four participating agencies on Saturday, May 1st.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY- JVS seeking One-On-One Mentors

JVS Toronto, at Sheppard/Victoria Park, seeks One-On-One Mentors to offer newcomers an introduction to Canadian workplace culture/industry trends and provide them with support and information in areas such as job search strategies, professional licensing, credential and education requirements, professional language and terminology, networking creation and assistance.

 

 

Time Committment: Meet for approx 1 hour/week

Skills Requirements:

  • Mentors must be age 21+
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge/experience in fields including: Insurance, Financial Services, Administration, Human Resources, IT, Sales/Marketing, Legal, Teaching, Healthcare, etc.

The Creative Institute for Toronto Young (CITY) Leaders is seeking passionate individuals who are interested in becoming a CITY Leaders mentor.

Youth Assisting Youth seeks Youth Peer Mentors for North York, Etobicoke, Brampton and York Region.

 

Mandarin speaking male volunteers sought for Downtown Toronto.

 Special need for female mentors in South Etobicoke.

 

Do you think you can build a child's self esteem and contribute to their success? Yes, you can make a difference and inspire their juniors between the ages of 6 -15. Provide support, coaching and leadership. Participate in conversation, programs, excursions and activities. Attend FREE attractions. Training provided.

If you’re age 16 - 29, available 3 hours a week and have good communication and coaching skills.

Direct Marketing volunteer

Department: Marketing

Role: Provide support to the Direct Marketing team

Report to: Associate Manager, Direct Marketing

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead Generation - make outbound phone calls on behalf of United WayToronto to prospective medium sizedcompanies, asking for their support
  • Perform online research on allpotential donors
  • Document and track all calls, responsesand leads in MS excel
  • Follow up with potential companies ina timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
  • Effective time management and abilityto work under pressure to meet deadlines 
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Very good organizational skills
  • Excel skills (e.g. sort, filter, basic formulas), an asset
  • Previous experience with telemarketing or customer service, an asset

 

TIME COMMITMENT/DURATION:

 

  • Calls are made from UWT offices during regular business hours.
  • Hours are flexible – minimum commitment of 6 hours a week for 8 weeks OR a minimumcommitment of 48 hours over a course of 8 weeks
