Agincourt Community Services Holiday Food Drive

by John Chiu 5. January 2010 14:09
In December, I had the opportunity to help out at the Agincourt Community Services Food drive at Agincourt Collegiate. My girlfriend and I (who I surprised with this trip) really enjoyed ourselves working along the other volunteers to organize and sort the donations for distribution. There was one class from one of the other feeder schools that came to help and it was much appreciated to have all those extra little hands sorting there with us. I know that this year has been tough for everyone especially the needy and it was very rewarding to be given the opportunity to contribute. I believe that it is important for everyone to donate something each year even if it is only a few hours for one day to help the less fortunate. Growing up with a single parent family, I know what it is like to have hardships and how something so small like a holiday food donation can mean so much to families in need. With over 800,000 people across Canada requiring food banks for help, this is something that cannot be ignored and must be made more public in order to get more help from those who can. I strongly believe that monetary donations are good, but not as useful as helping out another human being have something to eat during this time of giving.
