Volunteering With Your Significant Other

by John Stubbs 25. September 2009 14:49

Lately, my girlfriend and I have been discussing the idea of volunteering together. As both of our schedules get busier and busier, we are hoping to have a recurring night during the week that we can spend together doing something active.

The idea of playing sports is appealing, but changes seasonally based on the weather. Finding a volunteer opportunity will give us something that we can do throughout the year no matter what it’s like outside. Better yet, we can both do something completely new and hopefully learn a few things.

Something community based would be the best suited. We can find an opportunity close to home, that’s within walking distance, and also get to know our neighbourhood better. At our current stage of life, maybe we can help mentor new Canadians or students from lower-income families who could benefit from our educational and professional life experiences?

The point is that no matter what we choose to do,we’ll be spending time together building our relationship and helping build a stronger community. Need I also mention that it’s a FREE date night?
