Youth Assisting Youth (Various Locations)

Mentors Needed: We need volunteers to provide positive support, coaching and leadership to youth on a one-to-one basis or in groups including after school programs, arts and/or recreational activities.  Second language skills are sought but not required.  Young professionals and post secondary students/grads needed.

CNIB (1929 Bayview Ave.) 

Volunteer Narrator/Technician Needed:  The CNIB Library is seeking volunteers to narrate and produce audio books for Canadians who are living with vision loss.  To e3nsure quality of recording, applicants will be assessed on the following:  ability to read at a University level; language skills; voice quality and diction; accuracy; narrative flow; computer skills.  Volunteers are asked for a minimum commitment of one 2 or 3 hour shift a week, for two years.

Tropicana Community Services Organization (Scarborough)

Volunteer Tutors Needed:  Tutors will work closely with elementary and/or secondary school staff.  Responsibilities include:  attend Saturday morning (10am – 1pm) tutorial classes; keep attendance records; provide assistance with math and/or language arts, home-work assignments and other areas of studies where children may be experiencing difficulties; assist in reporting and tracking of students’ progress; communicate with parents to gather information to develop a work plan that is best suited to the students’ needs; attend volunteer meetings and orientation.  Volunteers are expected to commit to at least 3.5 hours on a Saturday from September to May for at least one year.

Scarborough Support Services for the Elderly (Scarborough)

Telephone Reassurance Volunteers Needed: Volunteers provide regular telephone support to a senior or handicapped person.   Volunteer Responsibilities – arrange in advance a suitable time to telephone the client; keep track of time spent phoning the client; provide monthly verbal progress report to the coordinator; participate in evaluation of the program; work towards the goals for the client established by the Manager, Special Programs and Services; report any problems to the program coordinator.  Volunteers will telephone client once a week at a pre-determined time for a minimum of 6 months.
